                   2.00pm - 5.00pm

Phone (09) 534-8118

Consultations are by appointment. Clients without an appointment will be seen, but on the basis that emergencies take first priority followed by clients with an appointment.

We have 4 experienced veterinarians on our staff.  Because we are open from 8.00am to 7.30pm they work on a roster system. 2 of the veterinarians are occupied each weekday morning in surgery.  For this reason it is important to let the receptionist know if you wish to see a particular vet when scheduling an appointment.  When making revisit appointments we would also encourage you to try and book with the same veterinarian as continuity of care is imortant to us.
Dentistry
DentistryPreventative dental care and control of tartar formation, before gum and periodontal disease occurs is vitally important in maintaining good general health. We have a modern air-driven dental unit similar to that found in most human dental surgeries, which allows us to efficiently clean teeth and carry out extractions when required.
Diagnostic Laboratory
Laboratory Equipment 2We have our own in-house IDEXX laboratory equipment which allows us to carry out urgent biochemistry and blood cell analysis as an aid in medical diagnosis testing.  We also regularly use the local Veterinary Pathology Laboratory when additional testing or the expert opinion of a clinical pathologist is required.
Hospitalisation
We have a purpose-built hospital area with 16 cat cages and 10 dog cages
Medicine
Xray MachineOur experienced veterinarians are backed up with modern diagnostic equipment, an ECG machine, an efficient “in-house” IDEXX laboratory system and a well-stocked pharmacy. This enables us to offer excellent medical facilities to treat your pets. We have 3 IV pumps to allow accurate administration of intravenous fluids and drugs.
Microchipping
MicrochippingWe regularly microchip pets for identification, dog registration, and when required for animals are traveling overseas. We have a scanner which we use to check all strays. We encourage you to microchip your pets for identification purposes and to make sure you keep your contact details current.

The Companion Animal Microchip Register
has now been set up in New Zealand which allows Veterinarians and the SPCA 24hour access to information for any animal (not just dogs) who is microchipped and registered with the database. This is a separate database from the National Dog Register
Pet Export
Consulting3 of our 4 Veterinarians are registered to carry out export examinations for pets travelling from New Zealand to Australia.  Generally export examinations for other countries must be carried out by a Government Biosecurity Veterinarian and the requirements differ for each country.

We are also able to carry out all the procedures to allow licencing of pets for the PETS Passport Scheme for travel to the UK

Follow the link to the official website for more information about specific countries and animals: www.biosecurity.govt.nz/exports/animals
Pet Products
General MerchandiseWe carry a selected range of petcare products and pet food:

Pet foods (Iams, Eukanuba, Hills Science diet, Nutrience)
Parasite and Flea Control (Frontline, Advantage, Revolution)
Collars, choker chains, leads, harnesses
Toys
Chewing aids
Shampoos
Joint supplements
Preanaesthetic Blood Testing
Laboratory EquipmentWe offer the option of pre-anaesthetic blood testing for all procedures requiring a general anaesthesia. We strongly recommend it before the first anaesthetic your pet has and for all animals over 8 years of age. This is mainly done as a screening test for liver and kidney abnormalities.
Prescription Refills
For animals on long term medication we provide a prescription refill service. However please ring in advance to have the prescription made up to prevent lengthy delays.

It is important to understand that prescription drugs can only be provided to an animal under a veterinarian’s direct care and it is our responsibility to ensure that we monitor your pet’s health condition for any changes. For this reason our reception staff must always check with a veterinarian before a prescription is dispensed and we will periodically request that your pet revisits the clinic for monitoring of the condition when the veterinarian feels it is appropriate.
Radiology and Ultrasound
Iain UltrasoundOur modern x-ray equipment and automatic developing facilities enable us to carry out a large range of diagnostic x-rays within the hospital. We use radiography most commonly while investigating lameness, suspected spinal problems and to aid cardiac, chest, or abdominal diagnosis. We also have recently expanded our imaging to include ultrasound which aids greatly in the diagnosis of chest and abdominal problems.
Specialist Referrals
Where specialist expertise would benefit your pet we can provide referral to specialists in the following areas:

Surgery including both soft tissue surgery and orthopaedic surgery.
Radiology and Ultrasound
Medicine
Cancer Treatment
Dermatology
Opthalmology
Dentistry
Surgery and Anaesthesia
Graham SurgeryIn our surgery we use modern anaesthetic equipment, drugs, and monitoring to ensure the best possible safety for animals under anaesthetic. We use a range of anaesthetic agents, including some designed especially for older animals or those at greater risk.
Vaccinations
We recommend regular vaccination of cats and dogs. Which vaccines are used and how often they need to be given needs to be tailored to suit each pet’s circumstances. Feel free to ask one of our veterinarians about your pet’s vaccination program at any time. There is some detailed information provided in the client information sheets—Cat Vaccination and Dog Vaccination.
Weight Control
Obesity is a very common problem in pets today. We provide free weight control advice and clients are welcome to use our waiting room scales at any time to monitor their pet’s weight. We sell high quality diets by Eukanuba and Hills Science Diet specifically formulated for weight loss programs. Download the client information sheets Weightwatchers for Dogs and Weightwatchers for Cats.
