Graham Trail

Graham graduated in 1983 from Massey University. He has spent most of his career working at the Bucklands Beach Veterinary Clinic and took over as a partner in 2015 along with Iain Malcolm. He has had periods working in other clinics both in Auckland and Scotland.

His long involvement here at the clinic is a reflection of both the friendly atmosphere and staff, and the satisfaction of working in a clinic which aims to provide a high level of veterinary care for its clients. His particular interest is in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Graham has two sons, who have now both completed their tertiary degrees. In his spare time Graham plays electric and double bass for musical theatre shows around Auckland, for the Off-Broadway Big Band, and the Manukau Concert Band. He has one quite elderly cat “Hermione”.

Iain Malcolm

Iain graduated in 1985 as a vet and has spent many enjoyable years working at BBVets since the early 1990s and is now one of the owner-partners of the clinic

He enjoys the many aspects of vet clinic work but has a particular interest in internal medicine, radiology and ultrasound.

He lives on a small lifestyle block with his wife Julie, their four horses and current cat. When not working he is often to be found out enjoying the outdoors: Biking , tramping , swimming , horse-riding , skiing.

Aside from cats and dogs, Jennifer is also interested in unusual pets such as small mammals, birds and reptiles.  She is fascinated by the human-animal bond, and enjoys behavioural medicine.

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys tramping, gardening, and being involved in conservation and wildlife projects.

Joanne Watkinson
BVSc

Joanne graduated from Massey University in 2000. She grew up in Bucklands Beach and since qualifying as a vet has worked in Wellington, the United Kingdom, Hamilton and has been a staff member for some time now. Her particular interest is in feline & emergency medicine.

Joanne and her husband Daryl have two young boys Sebastian and Anton. Her interests outside of work include travel, photography, diving and white water rafting with her husband, Daryl. They have three handsome cats, Oscar, Barney & Bee, and a number of goldfish (who also all have names).

Leon Goldwater
BVSc MACVSc

Leon graduated from Massey University in 1975, and has worked and lived in Howick for most of his professional career.  In particular, a love of cats led him to study cat medicine further, and gain Membership of the Australia and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Feline Medicine.  His greatest pleasure in vet practice has been the health and happiness of the human-pet bond, and the importance of pets in the family unit.  Apart from feline medicine, Leon enjoys urinary tract medicine, canine medicine and general surgery.

Leon and Sue's children grew up  locally and have now fled the nest.  The eldest, a daughter, is a geography teacher in Melbourne, the older son a horticultural researcher in Sydney, and the younger son a production animal vet in the Waikato.  Sue and Leon have a spoilt miniature poodle and similarly spoilt siamese cat.  When not at work, Leon is a keen road cyclist, gardener and bush walker.

Kerry Pickles
Cert Vet Nursing

Kerry has been working fulltime at the clinic since 2006, and before that worked part-time whilst studying for her Certificate in Veterinary Nursing at Unitec. She also has a Certificate in Animal Care and has almost completed a further correspondance course. Kerry loves being able to help our animal companions especially when they are sick in hospital or having to undergo surgery.

She has a 16 year old son Daniel, a very enthusiastic Welsh Springer Spaniel called “Reckless Ruby”, and a cat Katie who is not actually sure she is a cat. Outside of work Kerry is often found doing some form of art work, home renovations, or gardening with Katie’s help.

Karen Hill

Karen is now in her third decade working at the clinic after starting in 1987 as a newlywed. She and her husband Brett have raised three children and are almost entering the “empty nest” phase of their lives! The pets, clients and staff here at Bucklands Beach Vet Clinic have made this a dream job, and it fills her with pride to see her daughter Loren enjoying veterinary nursing as much as she has.

Deborah Eagleton
Cert Vet Nursing and Animal Care

Deborah has worked at the clinic since 1997. She completed her qualifications in 1999 and gained a Certificate in Animal Care and Certificate in Veterinary Nursing. She enjoys the challenge of working in a busy environment and helping with the day to day running of the clinic.

Deborah is married to Quentin and they have a 5 year old daugher Holly.  Prior to the arrival of Holly, Deborah was our Head Nurse.  Now she works part-time, job-sharing with Karen Hill.  Deborah is a loyal member of the team and enjoys the relationships she has built with clients and their pets over the years.

Karen Hogg

Karen started nursing at Bucklands Beach Vet Clinic in 1991. After 15 years working full-time she left to have her daughter Sophie and help out with her partner's Electrical Business. Karen rejoined the team again three and a half years ago. Karen has travelled extensively over the last 25 years.

Loren Hill

Loren has been accompanying her Mum and enthusiastically helping at the clinic for longer than she can remember, so it comes as no big surprise that she has chosen to become a Qualified Veterinary Nurse. A large part of her free time is spend studying at the moment, but when time does allow she loves nothing better than a road trip to explore some of the magical beaches and scenic spots we are lucky enough to have close by.
