Veterinary Surgeons

Graham Trail

Graham graduated in 1983 from Massey University. He has spent most of his career working at the Bucklands Beach Veterinary Clinic and took over as a partner in 2015 along with Iain Malcolm. He has had periods working in other clinics both in Auckland and Scotland.

His long involvement here at the clinic is a reflection of both the friendly atmosphere and staff, and the satisfaction of working in a clinic which aims to provide a high level of veterinary care for its clients. His particular interest is in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Graham has two sons, who have now both "left the nest". In his spare time Graham plays electric and double bass for musical theatre shows around Auckland, and the Off-Broadway Big Band.  He has one quite elderly cat “Hermione”.

Iain Malcolm

Iain graduated in 1985 as a vet and has spent many enjoyable years working at BBVets since the early 1990s and is now one of the owner-partners of the clinic

He enjoys the many aspects of vet clinic work but has a particular interest in internal medicine, radiology and ultrasound.

He lives on a small lifestyle block with his wife Julie, their four horses and current cat. When not working he is often to be found out enjoying the outdoors: Biking , tramping , swimming , horse-riding , skiing.

Ashleigh Wilson-van Duin

Ashleigh joined us early in 2020.  In addition to a Veterinary  Degree, Ashliegh has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Otago (Genetics and Zoology) and also from the University of Oregon.   She has always been passionate about animals, and loves being able to meet and work with the unique personalities of pets that we see on a daily basis.

Joanne Watkinson

Joanne graduated from Massey University in 2000. She grew up in Bucklands Beach and since qualifying as a vet has worked in Wellington, the United Kingdom, Hamilton and has been a long time staff member. Her particular interest is in feline & emergency medicine.

Joanne and her husband have two young boys. Her interests outside of work include travel, photography, diving and white water rafting.

Anna Worthington

Ann Worthington is an experienced veterinarian who has worked in the Howick/Bucklands Beach area for many years including most recently as part of the Manukau After Hours Veterinary Clinic team.  She was a staff member as a young graduate at Bucklands Beach Veterinary Clinic and so has returned "home" in a way.  She is enjoying working in a collaborative environment with our team of vetinarians.

Debbie Jones

Debbie has been a veterinarian for 30 years and worked mostly in London or Auckland. She lives in an apartment in a converted flour mill in central Auckland.  She has a very shy rescue cat called Moth who only has three legs. Moth was a badly beaten SPCA cat. I had to amputate one of her hindlegs as it was in so many pieces and she came home to recover and learn to walk again and she never went back to the SPCA.  Moth is named after a fairy in Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Nights Dream. The other fairies are Cobweb, Mustardseed and Peaseblossum, so I have 3 more cats names ready!

Outside of work she loves books, film – addicted to Auckland film festival every year, theatre, travel and obviously Shakespeare!

Veterinary Nurses

Kim Elphick

Kim has been a Veterinary Nurse since 1986 and has been working at Bucklands Beach Veterinary since 1994. She is passionate about animals and is thankful to work with an amazing team of people. She has had numerous pets over the years and currently has 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Kim is married to Terry and has two daughters Kirstin and Brittany. She enjoys reading, baking and gardening, but has had to down scale the gardening due to her back. Kim and Terry enjoy cruising and look forward to planning their next one.

Karen Hogg

Karen has been a long term staff member having worked at the clinic for 2 periods of 8-10years since 1991.

Karen Hill

Karen is now in her third decade working at the clinic after starting in 1987 as a newlywed. She and her husband Brett have raised three children and are almost entering the “empty nest” phase of their lives! The pets, clients and staff here at Bucklands Beach Vet Clinic have made this a dream job, and it fills her with pride to see her daughter Loren enjoying veterinary nursing as much as she has.

Deborah Eagleton
Cert Vet Nursing and Animal Care

Deborah has worked at the clinic since 1997. She completed her qualifications in 1999 and gained a Certificate in Animal Care and Certificate in Veterinary Nursing. She enjoys the challenge of working in a busy environment and helping with the day to day running of the clinic.

Deborah is married to Quentin and they have a 5 year old daugher Holly.  Prior to the arrival of Holly, Deborah was our Head Nurse.  Now she works part-time, job-sharing with Karen Hill.  Deborah is a loyal member of the team and enjoys the relationships she has built with clients and their pets over the years.
